How to Repurpose Content into 30 New Pieces of Content

After getting tons of requests to do an episode on this, I’m finally sharing my process! I'm talking all about repurposing content, the 2 different methods you can use to create your repurposing process, and the step-by-step guide to actually implementing it, so keep reading!

3 things to remember before starting to repurpose content

1. You have to really dig into your ICA (Ideal Client Avatar).

We all know how important it is to know who your ideal client is and where they hang out, but when it comes to repurposing content, you need to also know what they value and what they need from you. If you don’t know, start with some market research, but get really clear on what type of content your audience wants from you and engages with the most.

2. Keep your content pillars front of mind.

If you don’t have content pillars, you need to build those out first. Create 3-5 content pillars of the very specific topics or areas that you usually talk about. Once you know those, repurposing is all about making sure that the content you’re thinking about using again still fits within the pillars that you already have.

3. Repurposing is always easier when you content batch.

It’s so much easier to keep track of what you’re repurposing when you have a content batching process in place and are planning things out in advance. If you want to fully understand content batching and get a process in place, check out episode 112 of Females on Fire with Amanda Warfield where we talked all about batching!

2 ways to create your process for repurposing content

Method 1: The Build Out Method - best for people who want to start with smaller ideas (a tweet or a one line thought) and build out and add on to create longer pieces

OR

Method 2: The Break Up Method - best for people who usually come up with lengthy ideas and want to start with long form content (blog post, podcast episode, YouTube video) and break it up into smaller pieces

How you decide which method works for you will depend on your own personality and brain’s way of processing information and on what type of content you already have to pull from. With either method, you can add or remove pieces of content to fit your needs (for example, if you aren’t on TikTok you would remove that from your checklist, but you could add additional tweets or another Instagram reel - make it work for you!)

Dig into your older long form content first and repurpose anything that’s still relevant, then look at your older short form content to repurpose those as well. Mix this in with your new content (but make sure you’re repurposing new content across platforms as well), so that you have a nice mix of new and reusable content that all gives value.

Here are both methods listed out (bookmark this post so you can use these as a checklist when creating your own process!):

Build out method:

  • Start with one line / thought / tweet / quote

  • Brainstorm bullet points of every thought around this one line

  • Create Instagram caption of idea / points, then another caption of similar idea / any points you didn’t use in the first one (2 pieces)

  • Create an Instagram reel with a quick tangible tip from the idea (1 piece)

  • Share all 3 (Instagram posts and reel) to your Stories (3 pieces)

  • Repost reel to TikTok (1 piece)

  • Repost the Instagram captions to Facebook (2 pieces)

  • Share 2 one-liners from each caption to Twitter (4 pieces)

  • Combine the 2 original ideas / bullet points and build them out to create a blog post (1 piece)

  • Record a podcast episode and/or a YouTube video using the blog post as your reference (2 pieces)

  • Create 3-5 different pins linking to each piece of long form content you just created (6-15 pieces)

  • Pull pieces of the blog post and make them a little more conversational and use that to send a quick newsletter to your email list (1 piece)

  • Do a deeper dive or Q&A on a Facebook or Instagram live or in a Facebook community (1 piece)

Break up method:

  • Start with one long form piece of content

  • Turn it into 2 other pieces of long form content (i.e. if it was a blog post, do a podcast episode or YouTube video) (2 pieces)

  • Pull pieces of the long form content and make them a little more conversational and use that to send a quick newsletter to your email list (1 piece)

  • Do a deeper dive or Q&A on a Facebook or Instagram live or in a Facebook community (1 piece)

  • Create 3-5 different pins linking to each piece of long form content you just created (6-15 pieces)

  • Take one of the pieces of long form content and break it down into two ideas and create an Instagram caption using each idea (2 pieces)

  • Create an Instagram reel with a quick tangible tip from the idea (1 piece)

  • Share all 3 (Instagram posts and reel) to your Stories (3 pieces)

  • Repost the Instagram captions to Facebook (2 pieces)

  • Repost reel to TikTok (1 piece)

  • Share 2 one-liners from each caption to Twitter (4 pieces)

Regardless of which method you choose, that’s 25-34 pieces of content created! And it should only take you about 15 to 20 minutes to create all the short form content, and then just a little extra time to create the other pieces of long form content.

The important thing to remember here is to customize the process to you and your business, but make sure that you’re always creating evergreen content (meaning content that will stay relevant months and even years from now) so that you’re constantly generating traffic, conversions, and engagement from it and so that you can repurpose it again later.
