What should we do beforehand to prep for a live stream?

Part of the success of a live stream comes from preparation. It may seem like some people are just naturals, but they probably have notes in front of them. Before you start a live stream you need to think about what the goal and the purpose of the live stream is. What do you want to cover and convey? What action do you hope viewers take afterwards? What are your top priorities here? Treat it like you would a paper in school and create an outline. You don’t have to have a script, but you need to be prepared.

The know, like, and trust factor is increased through video, so live streaming helps you build trust faster.

What actually makes the live stream successful?

First and foremost, introduce yourself. We take for granted thinking that people know what we do and how we do it. Depending on how long your session is, re-introduce yourself several times in case people drop in and out throughout it. Just briefly explain who you are and why you’re qualified to be giving the advice that you’re giving.

Second, your live stream should be structured and easy to follow. It doesn’t have to go “point 1, point 2, point 3” but it should flow logically, so don’t go off on too many tangents.

Lastly, start bringing up your offer around the middle of the session. Don’t do a hard sell yet, but start to casually bring up your offer and that you’ll be talking more about it at the end. This will keep you from losing people who may have stuck around for the sale, just because they didn’t know you had an offer to give them. If you’re promoting a free resource, reference it 3-4 times throughout the stream.

It also helps to actually engage with people that are on the live stream. Call them by name, answer questions that pop up, and give people an opportunity to really talk to you. Asking them to share the broadcast will also really help engage your audience and grow it even more.

How often are you live streaming and switching up your offer?

If I’m not actively launching something, I stream 1-2 times per week. During those streams I’ll promote a free resource that I have for my audience. This gives you the opportunity to lead with value between your launches.

When it’s launch season, try to go live every business day for 2-3 weeks (so about 12-15 live streams). If you’re super new and still building an audience, try to at least stream 3 times per week. You need to build your audience as much as possible to make revenue from live streaming. Plan out your topics, talking points, and call-to-actions for each live stream.

How do you provide value for so many live streams?

If you’ve ever created a webinar deck or written an email funnel, you can create 12-15 live streams from that content. A live stream only needs 2-3 talking points and it doesn’t have to be 30-45 minutes. You can do separate live streams to talk about the client’s journey, introducing your program, what pain points it solves, FAQs, limited-time bonuses, etc. Take the content you already have for your launch and break it down as much as you can, then use those smaller segments of content as your talking points for live streams. Creating live streams is all about repurposing content.

How do we actually start the live stream and how long should we talk?

You can talk as long as you feel like you need to in order to provide your value and promote your offer, but the longer you go the more you’ll have people start to drop off, but you can’t stream something so short that people don’t have time to be notified and click on. Try to aim for 10-15 minutes at minimum, and if you can do 20-30 minutes for a paid offer with more value, that’s even better.

When you hop on the live stream, go ahead and do your introduction, and ask a fun audience question that will promote engagement from the beginning like “Where is everyone from? Tell me in the comments.” and then just engage with any comments that come in. From there, you can dive into introducing the topic and your talking points.
